Trekking in Cat Ba National Park
If you like trekking and nature and are in Cat ba island, then the nationalpark might be worth the time to go visit.
Cat ba nationalpark covers about 15,200 hectares and you are free to walk around where ever you’d like. There are different trails, everything from adventurous to regular trail. A guide is not necessary although tours are available. If you feel adventuruous and take the adventurous trail you get to walk your way trough limestone formations, climb steep rockwalls, climbing rusty ladders that has been there for centuries, and once you get to the top of the trail you’ll have the most amazing view over the valley and a 360° view over the island.
We didn’t see that many animals, we saw one monkey. According to tourguides and rangers there are about 280 species registered here. We saw a lot of butterflies and mosquitos aswell so be prepared with your mosquito reppellant. There are a lot of birds but they are well camouflaged since there are almost none to be seen. But it’s very peaceful and quiet, you can hear the sound of the wind instead of motorbikes (scooter). The vegetation is thick and you have a lot of exciting trees like akacia, bananatrees and plants to explore and observe.
You can come here and watch the sunrise (adventurous trail is recommended) and they also offer animal spotting at night and guided tours by foot or by bike.
We went on the adventourous trail and took some detourtrails on the way back and we spent about 6 hours in the park. That includes a lot of stops for taking pictures and video.
Entering the park cost 15.000 VND per person and 5000 VND extra if you want to park a vehicle inside of the park. They also have a little kiosk here and a restaurant if you need to refuel before or after your trekking.
Driving with scooter to the national park takes about 15-20 minutes from Cat Ba city.
